Mushroom Standards Adopted

Posted on May 13, 2016

mushrooms.pngFor the past fourteen months CNG staff have worked in consultation with our Mushroom Advisory Council to develop certification standards for a new program for mushroom producers. These standards were posted for public review last year, then further refined, and at last, adopted and published in April. View them on our Mushroom page, where you can also register for updates.

Why this new certification program? In recent years, CNG staff noticed a rise in the number of applications from mushroom producers. It became apparent that the CNG produce standards didn’t adequately address the particulars of mushroom production, as they are tailored for soil-based farming.

CNG's mushroom standards cover all aspects of indoor and outdoor mushroom production, including substrate materials, substrate disposal, pest control and disease management, water, sterilizing and pasteurizing substrate, and containers. The complete program will launch in Spring, 2016 when we will begin accepting applications online.
