Susana Lein, CNG farmer and long time permaculture teacher and owner/operator of Salamander Springs Farm, Berea, KY, will present 2 consecutive permaculture workshops on Saturday Dec 1 at the Nashville Local Food Summit. She will demonstrate applications of permaculture principles used in building her organic farm and homestead from scratch. The Nashville Food Summit is a conference for everyone who loves local food: students, gardeners, consumers and farmers. Other speakers at the conference include Hugh Lovel of Quantum Agriculture in Australia, Jeff Poppen, The Barefoot Farmer in Red Boiling Springs, TN, and Sandor Katz, renowned author of The Art of Fermentation.
There will be workshops on organic and biodynamic farming & gardening as well as permaculture, food preservation, cooking, policy and more. Admission $100 (includes full conference, meals and parking). Student rate $50. Includes local organic meals, exhibitors, chef demos and farm tour.
The Food Summit will be held at Green Door Gourmet, 7011 River Road Pike, Nashville, TN 37209. The new Sunflower Cafe will host the opening reception on Friday, November 30 at 6:00 p.m. Sunflower Cafe is a vegetarian, farm-to-table restaurant located at 2834 Azalea Place in Nashville's Berry Hill neighborhood. The menu for the reception will also include dishes prepared by other Nashville restaurants that have a local food focus. Dinner will be followed by a panel discussion "Why Care About Local Food?"
Tickets for Friday night activities are $20 or are included with a full conference registration to the Summit.
A full day of workshops, two meals and an evening barn dance will be held the following day, Saturday, December 1, at Green Door Gourmet Meeting House.
